About

We are fascinated by organelle biology and intracellular protein transport. In particular, we are very curious about how secreted proteins that are synthesized inside the cell are transported to the cell surface. Secreted proteins are essential molecules for cellular physiology. They include signaling molecules such as hormones, cytokines, chemokines, as well as extracellular matrix proteins such as collagens, which provide structural and biochemical support of the surrounding cells. Impaired release of these molecules from cells underlies disorders such as autoimmune disease, diabetes, and cancer. Importantly, mechanisms controlling the export of these molecules from the Golgi apparatus remain an enigma in the field. Thus, we are approaching these questions using techniques in cell biology, biochemistry, and high-end microscopy.
