Judith Hudson is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Rutgers University, where she has been on the faculty since 1987. She received her PhD in 1984 from the City University of New York and is active in the cognitive area within the psychology department. She is also a member of the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS). Hudson supervises the Douglass-Psychology Child Study Center, a laboratory school for preschool children located on the Douglass Campus. Her research focuses on memory development in children, including the development of children’s understanding of time, planning skills in children and adults, and autobiographic memory and narrative construction in both children and adults. She studies memory for real-world events and the development of real-world planning skills such as event planning and time management. A significant aspect of her work involves exploring the role of parent-child interaction in the development of children’s memory and their ability to think about and plan for future events. She investigates how conversations about past and future events between mothers and children influence children’s long-term autobiographic memory and understanding of future time, as well as how the use of temporal language affects children’s comprehension of time concepts.
