John V. Brown is an accomplished musician, experienced educator, and dedicated supporter of jazz music. A native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, he currently resides in Durham, NC. He holds degrees from the School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the School of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. John Brown is a Grammy and Emmy nominee who has performed both in the United States and internationally with renowned artists such as Elvin Jones, Nnenna Freelon, Ellis Marsalis, Cyrus Chestnut, and the North Carolina Symphony. In addition to his performance career, he is an active recording musician and producer, has appeared as an actor, and has recorded for television and film. He has also served multiple times on the jury for the Pulitzer Prize in Music, including as chair.

Background: In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), high interleukin-6 (IL-6) and low albumin circulating concentrations are associated with worse outcomes.
