Jihye Lee (Ph.D., Stanford University) is an assistant professor in the Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations at UT Austin. Her research focuses on the intersection of digital technology, class, and equity. She investigates the experience of poverty and its psychological consequences in various communication contexts such as targeted ads, interactions with governments, and digital health services. Her work draws methods from social and computer sciences to explore individuals’ information lives in their everyday environments, utilizing techniques such as mobile data mining, visual computing, natural language processing, and field experiments. Her dissertation research, titled 'A tale of two Americas: How rich and poor navigate the digital landscape,' received the 2022 Herbert S. Dordick Dissertation Award from the International Communication Association and the Nathan Maccoby Outstanding Dissertation Award from Stanford University. She has published her work in peer-reviewed journals including The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, and PLOS One. Lee completed her master’s degree in Communication and her bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Seoul National University, South Korea.
