Jianping Fu is a professor in the departments of Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan. He holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2007) and a BE from the University of Science and Technology of China (2000). His research interests encompass stem cell bioengineering, developmental bioengineering, mechanobiology, and BioMEMS. Fu's work integrates emerging mechanobiology research with human pluripotent stem cells to study the fundamental roles of cell mechanics and mechanobiology in early human embryonic development. He has made significant contributions to understanding how mechanical signals influence human embryo development and has developed innovative techniques for creating human embryo-like structures from stem cells. Recognized for his achievements, Fu has received numerous awards, including the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award, the Mid-career Biosciences Faculty Achievement Recognition Award, and fellowships in prestigious societies such as the AAAS, AIMBE, and BMES.
