About
Dr. Filipa Rijo-Ferreira is an Assistant Professor of Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology at Berkeley Public Health, with a joint appointment in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department, Immunology and Molecular Medicine division. Her research focuses on how circadian rhythms in hosts, vectors, and parasites influence the outcome of parasitic diseases such as malaria and sleeping sickness. She studies the role of daily biological rhythms in the evolution and pathogenesis of parasitic infections by combining molecular parasitology, mosquito development, immunology, and neuroscience. Her work aims to understand how circadian biology provides advantages to organisms from bacteria to humans, with the goal of designing effective interventions against parasitic diseases. Dr. Rijo-Ferreira is a recipient of the NIH Pathway to Independence award, a Chan Zuckerberg BioHub Investigator, and a 2023 Searle Scholar.
