About

Fan-Bill Cheung is the George L. Guillet Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering at Penn State University. His research areas include energy systems, nuclear power, and thermal/fluid sciences, with specific interests in multiphase heat transfer, thermal processing of materials, and nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics and safety. He has contributed extensively to the understanding of boiling heat transfer, dispersed flow film boiling, and the thermal-hydraulic behavior of nuclear reactor components. His work involves developing correlations, mechanistic models, and experimental techniques to analyze complex thermal-fluid phenomena relevant to nuclear safety and energy systems. Cheung's research has advanced the scientific understanding of downward-facing boiling, spacer grid effects, and in-vessel retention strategies, among other topics. His publications reflect a focus on experimental and theoretical investigations aimed at improving the safety and efficiency of nuclear reactors and related thermal systems.
