Ekaterina Pravilova is a Professor of History and associated faculty member in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Princeton University. She specializes in the history of the Russian Empire and the early Soviet Union, with particular expertise in the history of currencies and law. Pravilova has served as the director of Princeton’s Program in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies and currently runs the Shelby Cullom Davis Center for Historical Studies. Her scholarly work includes significant publications such as 'The Ruble. A Political History' (Oxford UP, 2023), which explores the political and economic history of the Russian ruble, and 'A Public Empire. Property and the Quest for the Common Good in Imperial Russia' (Princeton University Press, 2014). Her research projects examine topics such as justice and truth in the aftermath of the Kishinev pogrom, the cultural and epistemological approaches to authenticity in Russian art and historiography, and the transnational history of budgets as tools for envisioning financial futures. Pravilova's work has been recognized with numerous fellowships, including the Guggenheim Fellowship and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.
