Eduardo D. Rodriguez, MD, DDS, is the Helen L. Kimmel Professor of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Chair of the Hansjorg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He joined NYU Langone in 2013, bringing a rich surgical history and a focus on treating patients with traumatic injuries, disfigurement due to cancer treatment, congenital birth defects such as cleft lip, and skeletal, jaw, or skull abnormalities. Dr. Rodriguez specializes in microsurgery, including transferring muscle from one part of the body to another to enhance facial expressions or restore limb function. He has been involved in significant research leading to improvements in facial transplantation, serving as the director of NYU Langone’s Face Transplant Program. His work has contributed to making facial transplantation safer and more feasible for wounded veterans, civilians, and first responders. Dr. Rodriguez also leads the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center and has studied the long-term effects of facial transplantation, including medication tolerance and organ rejection reduction. His contributions to reconstructive and cosmetic surgery are notable, and he has performed the world’s most extensive face transplant to date.
