Dianne Mitchell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Colorado Boulder. She received her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and spent two years as a Junior Research Fellow in English at The Queen's College, Oxford, before joining Boulder. Her scholarly work explores the intersections of lyric form, histories of intimacy and sexuality, and the material world of early modern texts. She has authored a book titled Paper Intimacies in the Early Modern Lyric, published by Penn Press in 2026, which examines the surprising forms of intimacy revealed by Renaissance lyrics as mobile, social, and ever-changing handwritten objects. Mitchell's research interests include Renaissance Literature, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Poetics, and Aesthetics. She frequently writes about and teaches with manuscripts, integrating approaches from book history, formalist study, and queer theory in her scholarship and classroom. She collaborates with UK-based scholar Katherine Hunt, with whom she is editing a collection titled Literary Form After Matter 1550-1700: Experiments in Close Reading, scheduled for publication in 2026. Currently, she is working on a new project that investigates poetic manuscripts as archives of erotic possibility.
