Deborah Morton

About

Deborah Morton is an Associate Teaching Professor of Linguistics and African Studies at Pennsylvania State University. She is the Undergraduate Officer for the program and teaches a variety of courses including Foundations of Linguistics, Introduction to Phonology, Introduction to Semantics, and Linguistic Fieldwork, among others. Her research interests focus on fieldwork-based language analysis, African languages, formal phonology, and formal semantics. Morton has contributed to the study of the Gɪsɪɖa Anii language, exploring topics such as irrealis modality, negation syntax, ATR harmony, and temporal and aspectual reference. She has also edited works related to the Gʊya K’ushile language and has published extensively on African linguistics, with a particular emphasis on the Anii language spoken in Togo and Benin.
