Darnell Hunt is a Professor of Sociology and African-American Studies at UCLA and serves as the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost. He has been a faculty member at UCLA since 2001 and previously served as chair of the sociology faculty at the University of Southern California. Hunt is the lead author of the Hollywood Diversity Report, an annual series examining the relationship between diversity and profit in the entertainment industry. His research and publications focus on race, media, urban theory, and social realities, with notable works including 'Screening the Los Angeles Riots: Race, Seeing, and Resistance' and 'Black Los Angeles: American Dreams and Racial Realities.' He holds an A.B. in journalism from the University of Southern California, an M.B.A. from Georgetown University, and both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in sociology from UCLA. Hunt is a member of the American Sociological Association and the Association of Black Sociologists, and has served on various advisory boards and campus committees, including receiving the UCLA Academic Senate’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award in 2011.
