Danny Haengil Larsen

About

Danny Haengil Larsen is a musical theatre writer, orchestrator, and administrator. He has worked extensively within the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, serving as the Administrative Aide at The Graduate Musical Writing Program from 2005 to 2012 and as the Department Administrator from 2016 to 2024. He received NYU’s Distinguished Administrator Award in 2023. Larsen's creative work includes several musicals, many of which he co-writes with Michelle Elliott. His notable productions include Hart Island, Catch the Wind, The Hinterlands, Cloaked, The Yellow Wood, Zombie In Love, and The Butterfly Girl. His work has been featured in various developmental readings, workshops, and productions across the United States and internationally, including Denmark. In addition to his writing, Larsen has contributed as an orchestrator for productions such as The Ballad of Little Jo, A Wind in the Willows Christmas, and In This House. He holds an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

  Abstract This article takes a close look at the word maʿnā as analyzed by Abbasid-era authorities on the Arabic language, chiefly Ibn Fāris (d. 395/1004). The word’s context-sensitivity and polysemy are well known; less well appreciated are the lexical and morphological preconditions for maʿnā ’s diversity of meanings across the disciplines.
