Daniel Masterson

About

Daniel Masterson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research focuses on migration, displacement, and humanitarian policy, with a regional emphasis on the Middle East. He studies these topics through the lenses of comparative politics and political economy, contributing to understanding refugee networks, migration intentions, and the effects of humanitarian aid and refugee resettlement policies. Masterson holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University, an M.P.P. from Harvard's Kennedy School, and a B.A. in Political Science from Bates College. Before joining UCSB, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Immigration Policy Lab at Stanford University. His research has been funded by prominent organizations such as the National Science Foundation, J-PAL, the United Nations Refugee Agency, and the World Bank. His work has been covered by media outlets including The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, and The Economist. He is also affiliated with several research centers and initiatives, including the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, the Center for Effective Global Action, and the UCSB Migration Initiative.
