About

Carlos Cuevas is a Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. He holds a B.A. from Tufts University and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Diego, CA. He is the co-director of the Violence and Justice Research Laboratory. His research interests include victimization and trauma, sexual violence and sexual offending, family violence, and psychological assessment. His work specifically examines victimization among Latinos and its relation to psychological distress and service utilization, as well as the influence of cultural factors on victimization. Additionally, he studies the impact of psychological factors on the revictimization of children and explores the connection between victimization and delinquency. His recent research funded by the National Institute of Justice focuses on the scope and impact of bias crimes against Latinos, and he has collaborated on developing instruments to evaluate bias victimization among youth and teen dating aggression. Professor Cuevas also engages in clinical work, providing assessment and treatment to victims of abuse and trauma as well as sex offenders.
