About
Brian Edward Coggins is a biochemistry researcher whose work includes the study and development of methods related to nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. His research focuses on the sampling of the NMR time domain along radial spokes to obtain projections of an NMR spectrum at various angles. These projections contain information about the positions, intensities, and lineshapes of the peaks in the spectrum, which can be recovered using suitable reconstruction methods. Coggins has contributed to the description of radial data collection techniques and has outlined an intuitive framework for approaching reconstruction in NMR spectroscopy. He has also surveyed the theory of tomographic reconstruction and applied this theory to analyze reconstruction methods and the information available from radial sampling. Additionally, his work includes surveying past applications of projection-reconstruction methodology in NMR, including its use in three-dimensional and four-dimensional NMR data such as NOESY. This research was published in a chapter titled "Backprojection and Related Methods" in the volume "New Developments in NMR" in January 2017, co-authored with Pei Zhou.
