Barnett, Kent

About

Kent Barnett is the 21st dean of the Michael E. Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University and holds the J. Gilbert Reese Chair in Contract Law. His scholarly work focuses on separation of powers and administrative law, with publications in prominent law reviews such as the New York University, Michigan, Duke, Vanderbilt, and Notre Dame Law Reviews. Barnett's scholarship has been cited by leading administrative law casebooks, federal district and appellate courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to his deanship at Ohio State, he served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the J. Alton Hosch Professor at the University of Georgia School of Law, where he received the C. Ronald Ellington Award for Excellence in Teaching and was a faculty marshal for multiple commencement ceremonies. His professional background includes clerking for Judge John Rogers of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and practicing law at Weil, Gotshal & Manges in complex commercial litigation and appellate groups. Barnett is a Senior Fellow of the Administrative Conference of the United States (ACUS) and has served as chair of the AALS Administrative Law Section.

  On June 26, 2002, U.S. Representative Mark Udall wrote the US Forest Service Chief, requesting that the Forest Service conduct an analysis of the Hayman Fire. In response to the Congressman's letter, five teams were established in August, 2002 to analyze various aspects of the Hayman Fire experience. This report describes the Hayman Fire analysis work conducted by the social/economic team and presents our findings.
