Bala Rathinasabapathi is a Professor and Co-Chair (Teaching) in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. His research areas include capsicum breeding, genetics, and genomics, as well as synthetic biology approaches to biofortification. He also focuses on horticulture and breeding of Camellia tea, purple sweet potatoes, and other value-added vegetables, along with arsenic hyperaccumulation in ferns. Dr. Rathinasabapathi has contributed to understanding plant responses to stress, metabolic adaptations, and the development of improved crop resistance. His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Saskatchewan, an M.Sc. in Genetics from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, and a B.Sc. in Agriculture from Annamalai University. He has extensive work experience, including post-doctoral research at Michigan State University and the University of Montreal, and has traveled internationally to study horticultural industries.
