About

Dr. Alan Davis is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Center for Psychedelic Drug Research and Education at The Ohio State University College of Social Work. His clinical and research training was motivated by the question of why evidenced-based psychotherapies fail and how they can be improved. He has worked primarily with adults in various community and clinical research settings, including academic medical centers, university clinics, community programs, and long-term acute care hospitals. His clinical work involves delivering a range of evidenced-based and experimental psychotherapies to individuals diagnosed with substance use, trauma-related, mood, and anxiety disorders. These approaches include motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, harm reduction, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive processing and prolonged exposure therapies, and psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy. His research interests focus on understanding and improving clinical outcomes for those suffering from substance use and mental health problems, exploring novel treatments, and developing a strengths-based approach to conceptualizing these issues. His extensive research training has provided him with broad exposure to various research methodologies and advanced statistical techniques, contributing to his expertise in examining the effects of psychoactive substances, barriers to addiction treatment, and innovative psychological and pharmacological interventions.
