About

Adhy Kim is an assistant professor in the Literatures in English Department and the Asian American Studies Program at Cornell University. His research is situated at the intersection of Asian and Asian American literary studies, with a focus on Korea, Japan, and their diasporas. His book project, Speculative Natural Histories, examines the relationship between geopolitical realism and literary speculation in post-1945 Northeast Asian/American cultural production. It explores how literature and film reveal and rethink hegemonic geopolitical narratives embedded in South Korean, Japanese, and American memoryscapes, such as museums, peace parks, eco-reserves, and memorials. The project tracks how Asian/Americans deploy transhistorical and transhemispheric imaginaries to seek alternative spatiotemporal philosophies within the context of U.S.-led security alliances, inter-capitalist normalizations, and colonial occupations. Adhy’s scholarship also investigates how imperialism, capitalism, and militarism in Asia and the United States produce transnational and multilingual formations in twentieth-century Asian/American literatures. His work has been published or is forthcoming in venues such as Comparative Literature Studies, Mosaic, positions: asia critique, and an edited volume on Techno-Orientalism.
