Jennifer Wagner-Lawlor is a Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) and English at Pennsylvania State University. She received her BA, MA, and PhD from Yale University in 1990. Her academic specialization includes utopian literature and theory from the nineteenth to twenty-first centuries. She is the current Editor of Utopian Studies: The Journal of the Society for Utopian Studies. Wagner-Lawlor has authored two monographs, including 'Postmodern Utopias and Feminist Fictions,' published by Cambridge, and has edited three collections, most recently 'The Palgrave Handbook of Utopian and Dystopian Literatures' (2022). Her scholarly contributions include book chapters in works such as 'Life in Plastic: Artistic Responses to Petromodernity' and 'The Cambridge Companion to American Utopian Literature and Culture since 1945,' as well as numerous articles in journals like Feminist Studies, Utopian Studies, and Nineteenth-Century Literature. She is also working on an essay titled 'the Plastic-Bag Theory of Fiction,' scheduled for publication in 2025 in a special issue of The University of Toronto Quarterly on 'the Plastic Humanities.'
